Made to show how action games can be done in RPG Paper Maker, this project recreates most of the abilities of Link to the Past. Some items will have different functions and the UI has been updated. The biggest change would be assigning items to 3 slots, like Ocarina of Time.
The original Japanese name of Link to the Past was Triforce of the Gods. There is also a lot of backstory, in the game and in comics, that is unexplored in any game. If this does become an actual project and not just a tech demo, it would follow that backstory and not be a remake of LttP.
Gameplay elements created so far:
Health System – Uses the default RPG health system which is converted into hearts.
Full HUD – Your rupee and ammo count is displayed in real time, along with health and items. Magic meter not yet completed.
Death and Game over – When you die you are greeted with the classic gameover sequence and a choice to continue or quit. If you continue you will respawn at the last continue spot. Progress is not lost.
RPG Menu – The default Paper Maker menu will pause the game and allow you to view your stats, items, and skills.
Item Menu – A more streamlined version of the item menu which does not pause gameplay. You can walk around while using with this menu, but you can’t use items. Duplicate items are combined into a single icon and you press the corresponding item button to assign it to your hotbar.
Basic Enemies – Fight with and die by rats and bats.
Options Menu – Allows you to change volume levels, camera settings, and more.
Camera Controls – There are a few different ways the camera behaves. There is Paper Maker’s default, where the camera follows the player and can be rotated, tilted, and zoomed. There is the classic Zelda 1 fixed camera that moves one screen at a time. And there is the classic mode but with free camera movement.
Plugins – Controller support, lighting effects, and more.
This project is actively being worked on and a demo can be expected soon. It’s basically ready now, I just have to resolve some bugs and fix up some animations. Maybe add a few more simple maps, since there is just one small map.
